When Should I Get My Boiler Serviced?

6th October 2021 By GHS Leave a Comment

When you invest in a new boiler or you move into a new property and take over the existing one, you’re probably aware that you need to service your boiler periodically to ensure that it continues to operate as efficiently as it should.

But you might understand less about why you need to service your boiler, how often you need to do it, and when the best time of the year is to schedule it in. With that in mind, we have put together this short guide to inform you as to what you need to do to keep your boiler in tip-top condition.

Why Get Your Boiler Serviced?

There are several reasons to have your boiler serviced. First and foremost, you’ll want to book in a boiler service to have a fully qualified, Gas Safe Registered engineer assess your boiler and ensure that it’s running as efficiently as it should.

But while keeping your efficiency high and your energy bills down is a good reason to have your boiler serviced, it’s often a requirement of several major boiler brands in relation to their warranty. Most boiler manufacturers’ warranties are contingent on having the boiler serviced every year. If you fail to do so, you risk voiding your warranty and face being responsible for any repair bills.

Lastly, a boiler service helps to spot potential issues before they turn into potentially costly boiler repairs. Your heating engineer will also spot any carbon monoxide leaks before they become fatal for your family.

How Often Do I Need to Have My Boiler Serviced?

It’s an excellent idea to have your boiler serviced by an experienced engineer at least once a year. Failure to do so could leave you with soaring energy bills and a long list of repairs needing to be carried out that could have been avoided.

Life can get in the way for many homeowners, which is why it makes sense to sign up to a monthly boiler maintenance plan that includes an annual service. With small monthly payments on autopilot, you won’t need to worry about remembering to get your boiler serviced as it will be scheduled for you by our team.

When Should I Get My Boiler Serviced?

There’s no specific time that you need to have your boiler serviced, as long as you ensure it’s been done at least once every 12 months. Having said that, we do recommend booking in boiler services during the summer months.

Firstly, heating engineers are less busy during the summer and have more time to fit in boiler servicing. Boiler servicing rates may even be cheaper to reflect that fact. Lastly, by having your boiler serviced during the summer months, you can ensure everything is functioning at optimal levels before the colder winter months set in.

Who Should I Get to Service My Boiler?

No matter the specific type of boiler you own, you must have it serviced by a fully qualified heating engineer. For gas boilers, you’ll want to ensure that the heating engineer you choose is Gas Safe Registered. Otherwise, any work they undertake will not comply with the law. For oil boilers, you need an OFTEC registered engineer.

Before work starts, you should ask a heating engineer for their ID to ensure they are who they say they are and appropriately qualified to carry out a boiler service.
