
Some plumbing issues are common in almost every home, don’t leave it to late and avoid a plumbing disaster.
- Don’t ignore niggling /small problems
- Check and maintain your plumbing on a regular basis.
If you suspect you have a blockage somewhere, (signs would be the water draining away slowly) then try pouring a drain cleaner down the drain to try and clear the blockage.
Try and not put anything but toilet paper down the toilet, not only does this keep the toilet cistern clear it helps with the environment. During the COVID-19 lock down we had call outs where people used kitchen towel as toilet paper and it blocked the drains.
Be very mindful what you put down your kitchen drains. Oils and fats solidify and can block your drains so it would be a good idea to dispose this with tissue and place in the bin.
Cleaning shower drains daily will prevent s build up if limescale, hair and soap residue if left this can cause a blockage.
Leaks
Toilet leaks are the most common and can waste a lot of water, toilet parts are easily replaced and can ware easily so getting them replaced can prevent any leaks. When you see limescale on a toilet that is because a leak was left a long time, remember you are literally paying to lose water down the drain
Washing Machines are another common issue, Hose connections on the washing machine can become brittle so checking the hose and the elasticity will prevent floods.
Top Tips:
For a natural solution to tackle limescale around taps and shower accessories, try vinegar. Keep it in contact with the surface by wrapping a vinegar-soaked kitchen towel or scrap of cloth around the affected areas, leave for an hour, then wipe clean. Give chrome taps extra shine by dabbing with baby oil.
Leaking taps often just need nipping up with a pair of grips, best to do this sooner rather than later.
